Sony showed a functional
Blu-Ray disc player
prototype. It was displayed
on one of Sony's new 3-LCD
rear projection TVs and
looked great. Who will win
the HD DVD / Blu Ray battle
remains to be seen,
however.
The 750Mcx monoblock
power amp from Krell uses
their Full Balanced Power
topology to produce 750
watts into 8 ohms and 3000
watts into 2 ohms! You are
ensured to have plenty of
current with one of these
running your LCRs.
Thiel Audio was showing the
1.2 versions of their superb
custom installation
speakers. The new
Powerplane 1.2 (front) has a
much smaller footprint than
the Powerplane 1.0 and a
new, highly rigid aluminium
enclosure. The sound
quality is amazing for any
speaker, in-wall or not.

The new Adagio line of multi room audio and control products from Crestron feature
internal power amps and full front panel programmability (no laptop required except for
advanced programming).  XM satellite and AM/FM tuning are available on plug in cards on
the unit pictured above. The model below this one has XM Satellite and an AM/FM tuner
built-in. Both Adagio control receivers have full Crestron 2-series processors built in. Above
the electronics is Crestron's new full color, touch screen control. This slick piece has a
higher resolution screen than the currently available CT-1000, which receives an upgrade.
The CT-1000 is now the CT-1000+ and has a brighter, clearer screen.

The new LCD Display keypad has full 2-way feedback for display of music server and XM
tuner information. Sources are controlled and selected by the jog shuttle wheel. Above the
Adagio stack is Crestron's new small touch screen control. The unit resembles an iPOD,
which Crestron debuted a docking station and very slick touch panel interface for.

Crestron also debuted their new hard disc music server. The Crestron server will be
available in 1, 2, or 4 line level output configuration. It sits on the home's LAN and is
automatically recognized by the Crestron processor when connected.

Other Crestron highlights were new programming software, scripting software and lighting
control using wireless mesh network communication. The wireless mesh network used by
Crestron is dubbed infiNET. It is very similar to ZigBee but uses 16 channels to
communicate. Feedback and control was lightning fast in Crestron's demo.
Lexicon showed the latest DVD player and surround
processor, the MC-12B and RT-20.
Sherwood Newcastle showed off
their new universal disc player,
the  SD-871. Note the
component outputs w/ BNC
connectors. More players should
include these. Also included are
a scaled video output on HDMI
and and RS-232 control port.
The R-771 A/V receiver has
3-input component switching &
transcodes all video inputs to
component. The receiver also
included an RS-232 control, all
gold plated connectors and
actual banana jacks for all
speakers. Even with these
features, cost is only $399.95 for
the receiver! The universal disc
player fetches $799.95.
