Panasonic was one of several companies besides Sony
showing a Blu Ray disc player prototype. At right is a
sample of the output on one of Panasonic's plasma
displays. Note the Blu Ray navigation menu at the top of the
image.
LG Electronics had a full line
of LCD and plasma flat
panel TVs on display. This
is their 37LP1D, a 37" LCD
HDTV, sporting the almost
ubiquitous (at the Expo) TV
Guide logo. The set is full
featured, but modestly
priced. The image quality
was pretty good, with good
blacks and low level detail
for an LCD display.
The Mini Vee subwoofer
from Velodyne is a new,
lower priced version of the
SPL sub. It trades some
performance and features
for value. For instance there
is no auto EQ or remote.
The Mini Vee still promises
the impressive bass
response Velodyne is known
for.
Velodyne showed an in-wall
powered subwoofer that
used an innovative, elliptical
woven carbon fiber cone.
The unit has a long throw to
move large quantities of air
and provide great bass from
an in-wall unit. The
enclosure uses a novel
venting arrangement, similar
in appearance to a
bandpass unit.
Velodyne's new SPL-R
subwoofer series adds
remote control and room EQ
functionality to their popular
SPL series.
