JVC's HD-ILA now sports
1080p resolution. They do
not use wobulation to
achieve their 2M pixel
resolution. The sets looked
great. The image had the
smooth quality HD-ILA sets
are known for with blacks
not quite up to the best DLP
sets.
The new Musica 5000
series touch panels from
Netstreams are the latest
addition to the multi-room
audio and control
provider's lineup.
Netstreams' system
features true IP based
control and streaming
audio solutions. This is
combined with managed
network switches and
digital amplification.
The Pioneer Elite VSX74TXVi
A/V receiver has 7 x 140
watts of Pioneer's Direct
Energy MOSFET
amplification, the usual digital
surround suspects and is XM
satellite radio and iPOD
ready. It has a USB input for
PC audio and has Microsoft
WMA-9 decoders on board.
The unit has true 3-zone
multi zone capability with
RS-232 control.

With 200 watts into each of
three channels (into 8 ohms,
all channels driven), Mark
Levinson's new No.433
3-channel power amplifier
could really make your
home theater sound
fantastic. Note the triple
mono construction, with 3
huge toroidal power
transformers. Power
doubles into a 4 ohm load.
While not actually a home
theater or automation
product, this new Gigabeat
music player from Toshiba
boasts a color screen with
320 x 240 resolution, and
may well find it's way into
many a multi-room system,
ala Apple's iPOD. It'
available in 4 sizes ranging
from 10GB to 80GB, and
plays MP3, WMA and WAV
files. Also included is a
photo viewer with slide show
capability and 1 button CD
ripping.
Toshiba also showed the
160HD4 HDTV hard disc
recorder. As the name
suggests, it features a
160GB hard disc drive and
can do the usual PVR
functions such as pause live
TV and rewind. It was
another of the myriad of
products at the CEDIA Expo
2005 with TV Guide on
board. Recording of all
formats can be
accomplished over a single
IEEE1394 cable.
Toshiba was also
represented at the 1080p
party. One of the 1080p
units they showed is the
72M195. It uses Toshiba's
new TALEN-X 1080p light
engine and dual HDMI
inputs. It also has a
IEEE1394 port for integration
with D-VHS or DVR units.
For those using MS Media
Center Edition HTPCs, there
is an HD-15 connector.
Sherwood Newcastle showed
the R-965 A/V receiver, with
features specially geared to
the custom home theater
installer. Among these are
an RS-232 control port, rear
IR input jack, field
upgradeable firmware and
12v triggers. Power is given
as 120 watts  x 7 channels.
