The HD-Net crew discusses
the set up at the Sony
booth. Crews from HD-Net
were seen throughout the
CEDIA Expo this year. The
exposure of the show to the
mainstream public can only
strengthen excitement
among the general public
for exciting, new home
theater and automation
technologies.
The Pioneer Eite BDP-HD1 blue ray disc player and
companion, the PRO-FHD1 1080p 50" plasma display, was
spectacular and was one of the best pictures in this size at
the whole Expo. The BDP-HD1 is Microsoft Plays for Sure
compatible and will provide networked playback of your
media, including photos, music, and video.

From the "If you have to ask" department comes this new
Evolution series surround processor, the 707, from
ultra-high-end manufacturer Krell. Shown for the first time,
the unit has a plethora of gozeintas and gozeoutas, the
fantastic build quality Krell is known for and a flat beautiful
aluminium faceplate. HDMI switching, Krell's current driven
CAST interconnect technology, XLR balanced outputs, and
a future enabled digital link for high bandwidth content are
included as well. This unit does not have the separate
power supply that Krell uses on their two channel preamps,
however. Price is estimated in the $20K range.
Lowering us gently back
down to earth is the latest
flat panel display speaker
from award winning
manufacturer Artison. The
company walked away with a
Resi award at last year's
CEDIA Expo for their
innovative thinking. This
new speaker uses a ring
tweeter similar to speakers
from Krell. Sound was very
good, although the show
floor isn't a proper
auditioning environment.
It's a movie poster! No, it's
an acoustic panel! Actually,
it's both. One of the coolest
things at the show was this
movie poster / acoustic
panel from Cinema Design
Group. The firm will also
make movie posters with
your choice of images. The
opportunities are endless.
Cinema Design has made
custom panels with views as
varied as underwater shots
to cityscapes, simulating
outdoor views from a
window. It gives a home
theater an open feel,
instead of the traditional
"closed in" feeling. the
company also does
traditional home theaters
and was founded by
Acoustic Innovations alums.
The HD81 from Optima gave
great performance,
especially considering its
price point. This unit
combines an external
processor using the Genum
VXP with a Dark Chip 3,
1080 DLP imaging chip, and
a 15 step auto iris, to give a
detailed image with a great
color palate and deep,
detailed black reproduction.
In the demo, they were
using the optional
anamorphic lens shown
here. Price without the lens
is around $8,000, with the
lens about $13,000.
Monitor Audio showed off
the new Bronze series
speakers. The center
channel speaker is shown
here. They have new
C-CAM tweeters and MMP2
woofers and mid bass
drivers. On the Bronze 5 &
6, the mid bass and woofers
are now in separate
chambers for more resolved
sound.

Among several new products introduced by Audio Control at
the Expo were these units from the Mountlake Terrace, WA
manufacturer. Shown above are the Architect 860 12
channel power amp (around $2,500), and the Maestro M2e
surround processor with a price of around $2,400. The 860
comes to you with AC's light drive Class 'H' amplifier
technology, an optional Ethernet port, and EQ for all
channel pairs. The M2e is a 7.1 surround sound processor
with HDMI switching, 3 component inputs, a CAT-5
component video output for sending component video long
distances, 2-zone capability, and an RDS tuner.

For those of you lacking floor
space, Artison showed this
innovative, new in-wall
subwoofer. Using a unique,
opposing driver configurtation
to cancel wall resonances, the
combined driver area equals
a conventional 14" woofer.
The unit has a very long
stroke for impressive
displacement capabilities. In
their demo this sub gave very
high output for an inwall sub.
The design allows for easy
retrofit installation. Sound
quality was very good as well,
but not quite as clean as the
best floor standing units
available. All-in-all though,
outstanding performance for
an in-wall subwoofer.
