One of the hits at the Expo
this year was this new
display keypad from
multi-room audio bigwigs
Elan. Known as the Ole', it
uses and interesting system
of overlays to completely
customize the keypad for
the individual user. The
window at the top gives
information from Elan's
tuner or music server.
Arriving at integrators
everywhere any day now,
they'll set you back only
$380/ea. It's amazing how
much information and
control can be had for so
little these days.
A/V furniture and home theater seating company
Salamander Designs showed off their new furniture
series. In addition to larger center channel locations,
they feature available fan panels to aid in equipment
cooling. They seemed really quiet, although it was
difficult to tell for sure with the ambient noise on the
show floor. They also have a rail to rear mount a power
surge protector.
There were fantastic looking
LCD TVs from one end of
the Expo floor to the other.
You can get a great idea
how much better LCD TVs
are now with respect to off
axis viewing by taking a look
at this almost-side view of
the new LC52-D62, in
beautiful 1080p, from Sharp.
Mitsubishi had at least three
different booths at the show.
In one they showed off their
new projectors to great
effect. They are fantastic at
their price points. Here is a
shot of their latest 1080p
65" DLP rear projection,
Diamond Line set, the
WD-65831. X-Box 360
looked unreal, as you can
gather from the shot
displayed above. Mits
makes a big deal about its
color system, and the sets
on display really did have
nice color rendition.
Multi-room pioneer Niles
Audio showed the latest
modules for its Intellicontrol
ICS system. Niles was one of
several manufacturers
offering HD Radio pieces for
multi room applications. It
looks like HD Radio may
actually go somewhere.
They also had an Internet
radio module that will allow
ID3 tag metadata to be
displayed on the room's UI
for easy song selection.
Crestron continued its expansion into complete automation,
audio / video distribution and control solutions with these two
new pieces from their Adagio series. They are both complete
home control, multi zone audio and surround sound solutions.
What they've delivered is basically a full featured, high
performance surround receiver, multi zone amp / preamp
combo, and automation control processor, all in a single
chassis. The AMP-AIP model even has advanced video
processing, conversion and scaling capabilities. The units
include 7 x 100 home theater amplification, 8 x 45 multi room
amplification, 10 digital audio inputs, 7.1 channel analog
inputs and outputs, and Audessy EQ for all home theater
channels. The AIP unit adds HDMI, DVI, and component video
switching, along with the aforementioned scaling and video
processing, to the mix. You'll need to wait a few more months
to enjoy these pieces.

Utah based manufacturer
Tru Audio had a new series
of high performance in-wall
speakers to show off. They
had thick, aluminium baffles,
MDF enclosures, and some
beefy looking drivers. There
are three models in the
series, but the design is still
being finalized. Look forward
to these beauties sometime
next year.
