Sony unveiled a new 82"
Bravia LCD prototype. It
was, of course, 1080p. It
was compliant with the
new xvYCC color space to
deliver almost double the
color data range, and, one
would expect, a richer
color palette. It sure
looked good, and did have
nice, rich color rendition. It
also used Sony's
TriLuminos LED back light
system.
Sharp had something really different, this 45", multi display LCD
that would display two different images simultaneously. Your
seating location determines which one you see. The image(s)
even looked good! Now you can watch the Speed Channel while
your wife watches Inside Edition. Just sit on opposite sides of the
couch. This kind of LCD should be great for gaming applications
too.
Everybody's favorite plasma
(mine too!) at CES for 2006
seemed to be the CNET award
winning Pioneer Elite
PRO-FHD1. A truly fantastic
image was displayed by this
unit, showing plasma is far from
dead.

Pioneer also showed a display
with plasmas dating from 1998
to the present. It was obvious,
even to the initiated, how far
image quality has progressed in
the past 8 years. It also had a
real time power consumption
meter, showing plasmas have
become more energy efficient
as well.
Sony also debuted this
ultra slim, 55" SXRD rear
projection TV. It uses 3 x
.61" SXRD imaging chips
with a full 1920 x 1080
resolution per chip.
Contrast ration was given
as 5000:1 and it looked
like it! Sony listed a
response time spec of <
5mS too. No price was
given, as this unit was a
prototype.
Sony's reason for forsaking
plasma is apparent when you
see the new LCD sets they
were showing. They looked
pretty damn good!

Torus Power wins this year's
"Largest Toroid" contest with
the 190lb giant in this power
conditioner. Start working out
now. To fully utilize this baby,
you need to run a 50 amp !!
220V circuit to it. It then gives
you 5 isolated, clean 20 amp
110V circuits. They
recommend you rack mount a
few of these and power
condition your entire house. At
almost $8,000.00 each, this
might get expensive, but you
home theater would never look
or sound better!
Denon had their new AVR-4306 AV receiver on display. This
receiver boasts a full suite of up to date connections, including
Ethernet and IEE1394 and front panel iPOD and USB ports. It has
wide-band component video and HDMI switching. This full featured
unit also has XM Satellite Radio functionality and analog-to-HDMI
video conversion, with video scaling. A detachable IEC power cord
and RS-232 control should make custom installers happy . Retail
price is set at $1,999.95
