More New Home Theater and Audio Video Stuff from the 2007 CES
Danish speaker
manufacturer Dynaudio
introduced a new powered
speaker system, the
MC15. It sounded great,
especially considering the
environment. As you can
see, it would be a perfect
partner of an iPOD, a
smaller room, or could be
used for a smaller home
theater system. Expect to
see them sometime this
quarter at $1,300. The
200 watt built-in amplifier
and Dynaudio's acclaimed
drivers ensure top notch
performance. Another
great feature is a built-in
high pass filter with
variable cut off frequency.

If you're tired of taking crap
from your friends because
the speakers in your home
theater just aren't tall
enough, these new tower
speakers form Anthony Gallo
should shut them up. The
Reference 51S is 78" tall, so
unless you've spent time in
the NBA, they should be
taller than you are. An array
of eight 5" carbon fiber mids
and 7 of Gallo's CDT
cylindrical tweeters provided
fantastic sound quality, and
are augmented by twelve
aluminium 4" drivers to form
a very articulate subwoofer.
Gallo claims this
arrangement is equivalent to
a single 15" sub, but with a
smaller footprint and better
resolution.

Dish Network joined in
the whole IPTV
revolution with their
rendition of IPTV. The
interface is shown here.
They would only commit
to "By the end of the
year" as an arrival date.
The Thiel demo at the
Venetian sounded almost
as lush as their
surroundings. The left and
right speakers were the
new CS3.7 towers
($9,995), shown as
non-functioning mock ups
at the 2006 CES. The
center channel speaker
was the new SCS4 that will
replace the SCS3 in the
company's lineup. The
sound had the neutrality
and transparency Thiel is
noted for in the middle
and on top, combined with
a with a very taut bottom
end. The CS3.7s were on
display at three other
booths in the Venetian as
well.
The contrast
improvement in Sharp's
new Aquous LCD TVs is
pretty evident, especially
when side by side with
one of the outgoing units.
Anthony Gallo also had a
home theater surround
sound system on display
that used their Reference
3.1 speakers for left and
right. The demo was pretty
compelling. They used a
martial arts scene with the
metallic transients of
swords clashing and
constant water dripping in
the surround channels
rendered with almost eerie
realism.
There were so many great
looking TVs at the
convention center that it
almost gave you a woody.
Actually, LG had that
covered too, with this 60",
wood framed plasma TV,
the 60PT1D. It was a pretty
cool concept for those that
are tired of the same old
thing. They had some
other very interesting
plasma designs in a back
room that were viewable by
invitation only. From an
industrial design
standpoint they were very
slick, with a cool stand that
had interchangeable,
colored inserts to match
the decor. Sorry, no
pictures allowed.
Here's the IPTV interface
for the new Motorola cable
boxes. Obviously, it's
Microsoft based and is very
similar to the one shown in
the Microsoft booth. No
photos were allowed of the
actual boxes, unless you
were very sneaky.
